Château Belleverne's Gamay vines grow on siliceous clay on gentle slopes. Whole bunches, sourced from a single domaine, are put through carbonic maceration - the process by which bright, fruity Beaujolais wines are traditionally made.

This is an appealing wine with lots of depth of fruit and concentrated aromas of ripe raspberry, soft summer fruits with a herby, savoury layers.

This Beaujolais' fresh, herbaceous core is wonderful matched with strongly flavoured savoury dishes such as dried meats, liver and onions and mature hard cheeses.

Gamay

Gamay is a thin, delicate purple-black skinned grape which is cylindrical and compact, surrounded by flat, fairly even-edged leaves.

Although granite soils seem to be its soil of choice, the variety is good at adapting. Half of the 30,000 hectares of Gamay planted worldwide are in the Beaujolais region of France, where it covers 98% of the areas that produce Beaujolais wine.

A typical Beaujolais with plenty of soft red fruit
