This a delightful red wine from Château du Moulin-à-Vent, in the appellation often referred to as "The King of Beaujolais".
The grapes for this wine come from vineyards of "la Delatte", "les Rouchaux" and "les Maisonneuves" on the east slope, below the historical windmill (moulin) which gives the area its name. These sites have specific granitic soils (gorrhe), laying over deeper soils rich in manganese and metallic oxides. The vineyards are slightly protected from the powerful winds blowing on the appellation.
2019 turned out to be a very good, very sunny vintage in Beaujolais. Yields were low, the vintage started late, but overall, the conditions created balanced, fine and aromatic wines.
This classic French Beaujolais wine has a light, slightly earthy bouquet. In the mouth it feels medium-bodied with supple ripe tannins. There is a rich palate of fresh dark fruits.
Although Moulin-à-Vent wines have ageing potential, this wine is ready to drink now and is an immediate pleasure.
