This is a California Chardonnay made in a confident, settled style. Medium to full-bodied, it brings together ripe fruit, texture and balance without pushing any one element too hard.

In the glass there’s bright citrus alongside riper tropical fruit, with a note of warm, buttered bread from time in oak. The palate is creamy and rounded, but not clumsy, with enough freshness to carry the weight through to a clean, composed finish. It’s a classic take on Californian Chardonnay, refined rather than showy, and easy to come back to.

Long Barn is made by Stefano Migotto and Valentina Guolo, who draw on their agricultural roots and the character of rural California. The name comes from an old barn on the property, and the wines reflect that same straightforward connection to place, favouring balance and drinkability over excess.

Food Pairing

This works well with roast chicken, particularly with herbs such as rosemary, and also suits grilled or roasted vegetables. The wine’s texture makes it a good match for dishes with a bit of weight, without overwhelming more delicate flavours.

One of the world’s most popular grapes, Chardonnay is made in a wide range of styles from lean, sparkling Blanc de Blancs to rich, creamy white wines aged in oak.

Depending on how ripe the grapes get, the flavour ranges from crisp, clean citrus and green apple, to ripe peaches and tropical fruit. Notable Chardonnays can be found in France, California, Australia, England, and beyond.

USA

The United States has a short winemaking history, but what it lacks in age it makes up for with vigour.

It is the 4th biggest wine producer in the world. Every state has some wineries. Good, cool climate styles come from New York state, Oregon and Washington State. Warmer styles are found in California where Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon lead the way.

Quite good, not fruity or sweet.

A quality Chardonnay, more Burgundian than Californian, with good balance of fruit and acidity and a smooth vanilla finish.
