The top cuvée from the vineyards of the Abbey of Valmagne. Cardinal de Bonzi offers beautiful aromatic complexity, power and elegance.
The grapes come from 4 hectares of the oldest vines. It is an organic blend of Mourvèdre (40%), Syrah (30%), Grenache (20%), and Morrastel (10%) - a rare variety only found in a handful of vineyards in the region. In the glass the wine is garnet red, clear and bright. The nose is intense, complex, and beautifully balanced. There are notes of brambly black fruit and garrigue herbs like rosemary and thyme. The palate is dense and elegant with silky tannins.
This elegant red wine is made in honor of Pierre de Bonzi who renovated the Abbey of Valmagne in the 17th century and made it his residence.
Pair this with a roast rib of beef, game, or a decadent cheese board.

Languedoc-Rousillon, France
The Languedoc is a vast region stretching across much of the south and Mediterranean and is France`s single largest vineyard entity for its Vins de Pays wines.
Within the Languedoc lie several distinctly identified Vins de Pays (including the l`Aude, Gard and Hérault) and many appellations that maintain traditional local blends and styles such as Minervois, Corbières, Pic Saint Loup and Fitou.
A red grape variety that is widely planted around the world, particularly in southern France, South Africa and Australia. Typically wines are full-bodied and deeply coloured.
Generally called Syrah in the old world, or Shiraz in the new. It produces wines which are typically high in tannins and acidity, and can exhibit a range of flavors and aromas, including blackberry, black pepper, smoke, and leather.
Found throughout northern Spain and southern France, there are three variants: Grenache Noir, Blanc and Gris.
Grenache Noir is the most common. It is generally spicy, berry-flavored and soft on the palate. Complex and intense notes of blackcurrants, black cherries, black olives, coffee, gingerbread, honey, leather, black pepper, tar, spices, and roasted nuts can also be found.
Mourvèdre, also known as Monastrell, originated in Spain and is believed to date back to the 1st century BCE. Rarely a standalone varietal it is popular for blending in the Rhône Valley, Provence and Languedoc.
When done well, Mouvérdre wines exhibit flavours of red berries, farmyard, wild game, and earthy notes.
The vineyard of the Abbey de Valmagne dates back to 1139, when the Cistercian monks found a location to install a new abbey. In 1838 the Count of Turenne bought the Abbey and continued to develop the vineyard, work that Rolland d'Allaines, his descendent continues today.
Since 1999 the 35 hectares of vines have been farmed organically with bio-dynamic inspiration.
