A quietly delicious Macabeo from Manuel Olmo's meticulous vineyards in Utiel-Requena - with more character and susbstance than many Macabeo wines at this level.

Subtle floral and lemon citrus aromas, with crisp apple and hints of white spice on the palate. This is an appealing white - well-balanced with zesty acidity and a lovely fresh finish.

The vineyards are located in the north-west corner of Utiel Requena, 900 metres above sea level. Wines are made from organically grown grapes in vineyards cultivated using natural fertilisers, cover crops, biological control of pests and not using any chemical products that may damage the health of the environment.

Ideal to accompany pasta, fish and white meats.

Valencia, Spain

Valencia divides into three geographically separate growing areas.

The vineyards near the coast have a Mediterranean climate, whereas those situated further inland have a continental climate. The hot summers and cold winters provide growers with many challenges, not to mention the threat of violent storms in late summer and autumn.

Macabeo/Viura

Macabeo, often called Viura, is planted throughout Spain (it is very popular in Rioja) and there are some small plantings in Southern France.

Expect to find aromas of white fruit coupled with floral and sometimes aniseed notes. Macabeo/Viura wines tend to be fresh with good acidity and combine well with seafood, vegetable dishes or cheeses.

Manuel Olmo, Finca Fuenteseca

The 67 hectare Finca Fuenteseca estate lies in Utiel Requena, a high, rugged plateau, nearly 1,000 metres above sea level just inland from Valencia. The combination of hot, dry summers, cold nights and poor, limestone soil make the area relatively free of vine diseases and so ideal for organic farming. The entire estate is now dedicated to organic production and producing blends combining indigenous and international varieties.
