The original Malbec! The popularity of Argentinian Malbec owes much to its French relatives.
Intense cherry fruit, blackcurrant and lots of spicy oak. Characterful and complex with a moreish balance of attractive chalky tannins and acidity. This has been made from a blend of 85% Malbec and 15% Merlot.
Cahors has been an established winemaking area for centuries and a Latin manuscript from 1456 shows that the Burc family were already land owners around Cahors at that time.
5th generation vigneron Jean-Luc Burc now shares the running of this 50 hectare estate near Puy-L'Évèque with his daughters, Anne and Emmanuelle. They produce individual and characterful wines from their various vineyard parcels which encompass all of the classic terroirs of the region, both on the renowned terraces of the Lot and upon the limestone plateau above.
The estate's old vines are carefully managed according to the principles of lutte raisonneé.

Malbec
Malbec is a tale of two worlds - the old and the new. Malbec has become synonomous with Argentinia where the high altitude vineyards produce delicate, floral Malbec.
Yet, as with many things vinous, the grape came from France (where it was known as Côt or Auxxerois). Used in blends, including in Bordeaux, it's best known French expression is in Cahors.
The town of Cahors, located in the South West, was a center of the wine trade in medieval times and was known for its "black wine", which was highly sought after by European nobility.
Another South West town, Gaillac, has been producing wine for over 2,000 years, with evidence of vineyards dating back to the Roman era.
