Beaujolais Blanc is simply Chardonnay grown within the Beaujolais appellation. It has long been less visible than the region’s reds, but when it’s done well it offers a clear, mineral expression shaped more by site and freshness than by oak.
This wine comes from Chardonnay grown on granite soils around Corcelles-en-Beaujolais, in the heart of southern Beaujolais. That granite influence shows in the line and clarity of the wine, giving lift and a saline edge rather than richness. The colour is pale and bright, and the nose shows white-fleshed fruit. On the palate there’s subtle citrus, including a touch of pomelo, with a clean, dry finish. The 2020 vintage brought good concentration and balance, without tipping into weight.
Clos du Vieux Bourg sits within the Piron family’s holdings. Dominique Piron and his family have deep roots in Beaujolais, with vineyards across Morgon, Chénas and Régnié, and a long-standing focus on making wines that reflect their place rather than a house style.
Food Pairing
This is an easy wine to use at the table. It works well with simply cooked fish and shellfish, grilled or poached white meats, and also makes a good aperitif when you want something fresh, dry and straightforward.

More Information
Chardonnay
One of the world’s most popular grapes, Chardonnay is made in a wide range of styles from lean, sparkling Blanc de Blancs to rich, creamy white wines aged in oak.
Depending on how ripe the grapes get, the flavour ranges from crisp, clean citrus and green apple, to ripe peaches and tropical fruit. Notable Chardonnays can be found in France, California, Australia, England, and beyond.
The hilly Beaujolais vineyards stretch out from north to south over 55km, bordered to the west by the Massif Central, and to the east by the Saone river.
Beaujolais vineyards are emblematic in the French national landscape, but are still teeming with secrets to be unearthed. The region has a constent sense of welcome and sharing. Sculpted over centuries it is personified by its 12 AOCs.
Dominique declared his first vintage in 1971 and, in 1987, established the highly successful Maison Piron. While he sold Maison Piron in 2020, he still owns the historic family vineyards in Morgon. Dominique and his wife purchased the old church of Saint-Pierre de Corcelles to house the Clos du Vieux Bourg winery. They have added further vineyards in Morgon, Chénas and Régnié.

Beaujolais Blanc is a great value find. Notes of white stone fruits - think peaches and apricots - with a slightly spicy note to finish. Excellent value.
