A lighter take on Languedoc red. Domaine les Caizergues “Les Bobines” is all about freshness, with juicy red fruit, a touch of spice and a gentle, easy structure. It’s organically grown and made with a light touch, keeping things straightforward and drinkable. It’s the sort of bottle that works just as well with food as it does on its own, especially with a slight chill.
Made from a straightforward blend of Grenache and Syrah, this is fermented and kept in stainless steel to hold onto brightness and fruit rather than adding weight. The result is a supple, lively red with notes of red berries, a little black pepper and some soft herbal edges. Tannins are light, acidity keeps things moving, and it never feels heavy.
Domaine les Caizergues sits in Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert in the Languedoc, where warm Mediterranean conditions are balanced by cooling influences from the surrounding hills. The estate is run by Bob and Pat Middleton, who took it on in 2017 and farm organically across the vineyards.
This is a useful red to have around. It’s approachable, not overworked, and does what you want a midweek bottle to do. Try it lightly chilled to bring out the freshness.
Food Pairing
Very flexible. Pizza, pasta, grilled vegetables, or simple meat dishes all work well. Also a good match for lightly spiced food or a relaxed spread of charcuterie.

More Information
Languedoc-Rousillon, France
The Languedoc is a vast region stretching across much of the south and Mediterranean and is France`s single largest vineyard entity for its Vins de Pays wines.
Within the Languedoc lie several distinctly identified Vins de Pays (including the l`Aude, Gard and Hérault) and many appellations that maintain traditional local blends and styles such as Minervois, Corbières, Pic Saint Loup and Fitou.
A red grape variety that is widely planted around the world, particularly in southern France, South Africa and Australia. Typically wines are full-bodied and deeply coloured.
Generally called Syrah in the old world, or Shiraz in the new. It produces wines which are typically high in tannins and acidity, and can exhibit a range of flavors and aromas, including blackberry, black pepper, smoke, and leather.
Found throughout northern Spain and southern France, there are three variants: Grenache Noir, Blanc and Gris.
Grenache Noir is the most common. It is generally spicy, berry-flavored and soft on the palate. Complex and intense notes of blackcurrants, black cherries, black olives, coffee, gingerbread, honey, leather, black pepper, tar, spices, and roasted nuts can also be found.
In August 2017 two ambitious British wine enthusiasts, Bob and Pat Middleton, bought the vineyard after seeing its potential. They have introduced more modern and environmentally-friendly viticultural and vinicultural practices.
They are always mindful of the importance of heritage and terroir. The estate was formally accredited organic by Ecocert, in 2021.
