A sulphite free, extra brut Slovenian Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine made from 100% Chardonnay. This is a delicious, and complex sparkler.

The Chardonnay grapes grow on steep-sloped vineyards in the narrow, windy Sava River valley. The 2020 vinatge enjoyed warm and dry summer days which were perfect for the grapes, giving them an alluring varietal character at harvest.

In the glass there are aromas of ripe apple and pears, complemented by other fruity nuances. On the tongue, this balanced sparkling wine is characterized by an incredibly crisp, creamy and light texture. Finally, on the finish, this sparkling wine from the Posavje wine region delights with beautiful length.

Food Pairing

Serve at 7°C with fresh seafood, grilled chicken, or strong cumbly cheeses.

Slovenia

Slovenian wine boasts a rich, ancient history. Its winemaking predates that of major wine-producing countries like France and Spain.

Today, Slovenia, situated at the crossroads of Central Europe and the Mediterranean, produces diverse and unique wines across three main wine-growing regions: Primorska, Podravje, and Posavje. Slovenia cultivates both international varieties and unique indigenous grapes

Penina Istenič

After graduating in Oenology in the 1960s Janez Istenič enjoyed a career as a winemaker at one of Yugoslavia’s state cellars. He won a scholarship to study in Champagne thanks to his love of bubbles. On his return to Slovenia he realised that his father-in-law’s vineyard had similarities with the high-acid grapes of Champagne.

Today his grandsons Nik & Mark continue his work.

Chardonnay

One of the world’s most popular grapes, Chardonnay is made in a wide range of styles from lean, sparkling Blanc de Blancs to rich, creamy white wines aged in oak.

Depending on how ripe the grapes get, the flavour ranges from crisp, clean citrus and green apple, to ripe peaches and tropical fruit. Notable Chardonnays can be found in France, California, Australia, England, and beyond.
