Aldo Rainoldi is a three-generation family estate in Italy’s Valtellina Valley. Founded in 1925 as a wine merchant business, the winery is now led by Aldo Rainoldi and is regarded as one of the leading names in the region.
The story begins with Aldo Rainoldi, who started trading wine in 1925. In the 1950s his son Giuseppe joined him and began producing wine under the family name. Since then, the estate has become one of the most respected producers in Valtellina.
Today the focus remains firmly on Nebbiolo from Valtellina, known locally as Chiavennasca. The wines combine mountain freshness with structure, showing why this alpine valley produces some of Italy’s most distinctive reds.
Valtellina sits in the far north of Lombardy, where steep alpine vineyards produce a lighter, more lifted expression of Nebbiolo. Aldo Rainoldi is widely regarded as one of the benchmark producers in the valley.
The Rainoldi range includes the classic Valtellina subzones of Inferno, Sassella and Grumello, alongside Sforzato, known locally as Sfursat. These wines show the structure and perfume of Nebbiolo, but with the freshness that comes from high-altitude vineyards.
Across three generations, the family has built a reputation based on consistency and regional identity. The wines are firmly rooted in Valtellina, offering a clear expression of place rather than a generic Italian style.
