In December 2020 Rolf Binder the Human sold Rolf Binder the Winery, so the Smalltown Vineyards project hastily shacked up with Tom White of The Curator Wine Co just up the road in Marananga. After about 18 months in the wilderness, living off seeds, roadkill, and the proceeds of the sale of Rolf Binder the Winery, Rolf Binder the Human Returns.
A focus on special sites, basket presses, natural ferments, minimal intervention, indeed as little work as possible dovetails neatly with Smalltown’s existing philosophy of lazy, feet-up winemaking and Rolf ’s established practices.
