The Pinot Noir grapes for this Chilean red wine comes from a small Hacienda in Maule owned by fruit farmers, the Moreno Family.

The story goes that after a Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot tasting, winemaker Eric Monnin was served strawberries from the estate. He commented how delicious they were and if they could grow strawberries of this quality, then they must be able to grow Pinot Noir.

Low and behold they had already begun working with the varietal and Eric tasted their beautiful Pinot Noir for the first time.

The vineyards sit in the shadow of the El Dezcabazado volcano and the resulting soils are both rocky and fertile.

Maule is in the southern part of the Central Valley and temperatures here are much cooler than further north. Pinot flourishes in this environment and enjoys the healthy conditions where it can usually ripen without damp. The cooler temperatures allow it to retain crucial acidity which helps provide balance to the ripe fruit. No oak is used.

These perfect conditions produce a delicate and elegant red Pinot Noir showing ripe fruit flavours of plums and wild strawberries, balanced with subtle smoky notes and a deliciously lingering finish.

Chile

Chile is one of South America’s most significant wine producers. It produces a vast range of wine styles grown in a surprising range of terroirs.

Originally planted with international varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet, it was discovered in the 1990s that much of the country’s Merlot was actually a nearly extinct variety called Carménère.

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is the holy grail grape for many winemakers, it is a difficult mistress, but when made well it shines.

Young Pinot Noir has delicious aromas of cherries, raspberries, and strawberries. With age it develops complexity and mystery. Older wines have the capacity to become a gamey style of wine, and the best examples show autumnal notes of truffles, mushrooms, and forest floor.
