Winner of a platinum award in the Decanter World Wine Awards 2021, this highly anticipated release is a full-bodied, spicy red Rioja, full of cherries and wrapped in a refreshing layer of liquorice and eucalyptus.

This will be very popular, so order now as we have a very limited allocation.

On the palate it is firm but elegant, its silky tannins and vibrant acidity give this wine structure, balance and complexity.

The fermentation of this wine is carried out in stainless steel tanks with a total of 18 days of maceration and daily punching. It spends one full year in tank before putting it for the first time in new American oak barrels, where it remains for 24 months. Once the aging time is over, it spends a full year in storage where it is further refined, and getting ready for bottling. Before being marketed, the wine rests for at least 6 years, rounding it out in the bottle.

Bodegas Taron is the northernmost winery in the DOCa (appellation) Rioja, lying very close to the Obarenes Mountains and surrounding four small villages with a long-standing history of grape growing. The combination of more than 700 hectares of vines with an average age of over 50 years and the expertise of its growers and winemakers results in a range of consistently high quality wines.

Tempranillo

Tempranillo has been grown on the Iberian Peninsula since the time of Phoenician settlements which date back to 500BC. An early ripening variety its name is the diminutive of the Spanish temprano (early).

It thrives on chalky soils and is found predominantly in the Spanish regions of Ribera del Duero and Rioja. In Portugal it is known as Tinto Roriz. When vinified alone it has flavours of strawberries and plums.

Bodegas Tarón

Bodegas Tarón is a cooperative based in the northernmost part of Rioja Alta. The cooperative is made up of four small towns; Cuzcurrita de Rio Tiron, Sajazarra, Villaseca and Tirgo. These four towns decided that as they share not only the landscape but their culture too, they would benefit from pooling together their vineyards and knowledge to create one Bodega focussed on creating high quality Rioja.
