Céline and Frédéric Gueguen both come from winemaking families (Céline is the daughter of Jean-Marc Brocard) and established their 36 hectare estate in 2013. Their Bourgogne vines are thirty years old and located just beyond the boundary of the Chablis appellation in the village of Préhy. The vines produce a delicious, crisp and steely chardonnay.

This a full, pure and simply beautiful wine. Pale yellow in colour, it expresses aromas of white flowers, almonds and toast. The palate has great minerality thanks to the unique terroir of Côtes Salines, with a long honeyed finish.

This can be drunk now, but it will age gracefully.

Serve with white meat, shellfish, or cheeses such as Soumaintrain, Epoisses or Langres.

In the Press

"This Côtes Salines from a dynamic estate in Chablis shows appealing creamy/lactic notes on the nose, good concentration on the palate and crisp acidity to keep everything in check. A fine example of Bourgogne Chardonnay with mineral, stony characters on the finish and plenty of freshness and complexity. Definitely shows the effect of the cooler, more northerly terroir." (Andy Howard MW, Decanter magazine, tasted 12 Apr 2023)

Chardonnay

One of the world’s most popular grapes, Chardonnay is made in a wide range of styles from lean, sparkling Blanc de Blancs to rich, creamy white wines aged in oak.

Depending on how ripe the grapes get, the flavour ranges from crisp, clean citrus and green apple, to ripe peaches and tropical fruit. Notable Chardonnays can be found in France, California, Australia, England, and beyond.

Burgundy, France

Burgundy (or Bourgogne in French) is small in size, the Côte d'Or has about 8000 hectares under vine, yet its influence is immense. It is home to some of the best known and most expensive wines in the world. Look in the right places and there is great quality and superb value to be found.

The two major grapes are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, though you can find small pockets of well-made Aligoté.

Rich notes of baked apples with a nice mineral finish. Not quite as lean as their Chablis, but still impressive.
