Vereto Salice Salentino Riserva 2021 is the flagship wine from Tenuta Serranova, made exclusively from old-vine Negroamaro grown on the Vallone family's Iore estate in Puglia. Produced from carefully selected fruit and matured in large Slavonian oak casks, it showcases the depth, warmth and complexity for which the region is renowned.
The nose is rich with dark fruits, sweet spice and savoury notes. On the palate, layers of black cherry, bitter plum and dried fruit are joined by hints of liquorice and gentle oak. The tannins are supple, the finish long and mellow, with enough freshness to keep the wine beautifully balanced.
Negroamaro has been grown in Puglia for centuries, producing deeply coloured, full-bodied wines well suited to the region's warm Mediterranean climate. For Vereto, Vallone selects fruit from gnarly old bush vines before fermenting in stainless steel and ageing the wine for six to eight months in traditional 50-hectolitre Slavonian oak casks.
Using large oak casks rather than small barriques allows the fruit to remain at the forefront while adding subtle texture and complexity. The result is a wine that is generous without becoming heavy, combining ripe southern Italian fruit with freshness and structure.
Warm, satisfying and unmistakably Puglian, Vereto is a fine example of why Salice Salentino remains one of southern Italy's most respected red wine appellations.
Food Pairing
Serve with roast lamb, grilled steaks, slow-cooked beef, rich pasta dishes or mature hard cheeses. Its combination of ripe fruit and savoury complexity also makes it an excellent match for game.

More Information
Puglia, Italy
Wines from Puglia tend to be fruity, ripe, full-bodied, red and well priced. Some of the best value wines come from this sunny, dry region. Pair the wines with the traditional foods of the region, which are often based on olives, artichokes, tomatoes, and mushrooms. The best local grapes are Negroamaro, Primitivo, and Bombino Nero.
