A mixed case showing the character of modern English wine. Six bottles from independent vineyards, chosen to give a clear sense of what England now does particularly well.

English wine has developed quickly over the past couple of decades. Careful vineyard work and a cool climate have produced wines that are fresh, balanced and naturally suited to food.

This case brings together a small cross-section of those styles. There is English sparkling, for which the country is now best known, alongside still whites, rosé and lighter reds that suit the climate and the table.

Wines in the Case

  • Huxbear Classic Sparkling, Devon – Traditional method English sparkling wine from a small Devon vineyard. Fine bubbles with fresh apple fruit and a little biscuit character from time on the lees.
  • Henners Gardner Street Classic, Sussex – A bright, aromatic English white made from Bacchus with a little Chardonnay. Elderflower, gooseberry and citrus with a crisp, refreshing finish.
  • Sandbar Bacchus – A lively Bacchus showing the variety’s classic freshness. Floral notes with citrus and green fruit, particularly good with seafood and lighter dishes.
  • Lyme Bay Rosé, Devon – A fresh, dry English rosé with bright red fruit and a clean finish. Very easy to enjoy with food or on its own.
  • Hattingley Valley Pinot Noir 2020, Hampshire – A delicate English red showing cherry, raspberry and soft spice with fine tannins and a silky finish.
  • Huxbear Arcas Pinot Noir, Devon – A light, food-friendly Pinot Noir with red berry fruit and gentle structure, showing the lighter style that suits England’s climate.

Taken together these six bottles give a useful introduction to English wine today: fresh, balanced and increasingly confident.

Food Pairing

These wines work naturally with food. The sparkling and whites are particularly good with seafood, salads and lighter dishes, while the rosé and reds sit comfortably alongside roast chicken, pork, charcuterie and simple suppers.
