Gavi del Comune di Tassarolo comes from the small Tassarolo commune in the heart of the Gavi DOCG in Piedmont. Made from Cortese and certified organic, this example from the Araldica cooperative shows the clean, precise style that has made Gavi a classic northern Italian white.

Fresh lemon, green apple and white peach lead the nose, followed by subtle floral notes and a gentle almond edge typical of the grape. The palate is dry and crisp, with bright acidity and a light mineral finish.

Balanced and refreshing rather than showy, the Valle Vento Gavi del Comune di Tassarolo works well as an aperitif but has enough structure to sit comfortably at the table.

The Gavi DOCG lies in the hills of south-eastern Piedmont close to the Ligurian border. Vineyards around Tassarolo sit on limestone-rich soils which help give the wines their firm structure and mineral edge.

Valle Vento focuses on straightforward, regional expressions of Cortese, with organic vineyard work and careful handling in the cellar. Fermentation and ageing take place in stainless steel to preserve freshness and clarity.

Food Pairing

A natural partner for seafood and lighter dishes. Try with grilled prawns, simple white fish, lemon-dressed salads or vegetable risotto. It also works well with antipasti and soft cheeses.

Piedmont, Italy

Piedmont is affected by a tug-of-war between two weather systems: the ice cold Alps and the warm Mediterranean temperature. This variation makes the whole area fill up with morning fog that slowly burns off during the day. This means the land higher up on the hills gets more sun. More sun = happy grapes = good wine. It's why Piedmont (or Piemonte) is considered to be Italy's best wine growing region.

Cortese

Cortese is a grape variety indigenous to northern Italy. It has moderate acidity and light flavours which make a firm favourite in the restaurants of Genoa, especially when paired with local seafood caught off the Ligurian coast.

It is most famous as the only grape permitted in Gavi di Gavi, the dry white wine from Piedmont. Typically Cortese has flavours of green apples, lemon, and almond.
