Piedmont

Piedmont

Piedmont is one of Italy’s most important wine regions, known above all for Nebbiolo. It’s the grape behind Barolo and Barbaresco, producing structured reds with firm tannin and lifted aromatics.

The region sits at the foot of the Alps in north-west Italy. Alongside Nebbiolo, Piedmont also produces fresh whites such as Gavi, made from Cortese.

Piedmont wines from Nebbiolo to Gavi

Piedmont has built its reputation on Nebbiolo, a grape capable of producing some of Italy’s most ageworthy reds. The wines are known for their firm structure, bright acidity and complex perfume.

The region also produces distinctive whites, particularly from the Gavi area in the south-east of Piedmont. These wines are made from Cortese, giving fresh, citrus-led wines with a clean, mineral finish.
