Château Haut-Bages Libéral 2025 is a Cabernet-led Pauillac shaped by warm, dry conditions and the cooling influence of the Gironde estuary. The estate describes the vintage as one of “mineral precision”, combining concentration with freshness and finely defined tannins.
The blend is 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, harvested between 8 and 18 September. Vinification is parcel by parcel with gentle extraction, followed by ageing across new oak, one-year-old barrels and ovoid concrete vats designed to preserve freshness and purity of fruit.
Owned by Claire Villars-Lurton, Haut-Bages Libéral has become one of the leading agroecological estates in Pauillac. The vineyard is farmed organically and biodynamically, with agroforestry and regenerative farming now central to the estate’s approach. Around half the vineyard sits on limestone gravel soils near the estuary, giving the wine its distinctive freshness and mineral edge.
The 2025 has the structure expected of Pauillac, but with notable lift and precision rather than sheer power. Early tastings point to dark fruit, graphite, mint and saline tension, with the freshness of the vintage carrying through the finish.
