Juan Gil Yellow Label Monastrell 2024 is one of Spain's best-loved red wines, made from organically grown Monastrell in the rugged hills of Jumilla. Produced from 40-year-old bush vines growing on poor, rocky soils, it captures the generous fruit and character that have made both the winery and the region famous.
The nose is full of ripe plum, blackberry and bramble fruit, lifted by hints of vanilla, cedar and sweet spice. On the palate, layers of blackcurrant, cherry and juicy dark fruit are balanced by fine tannins and bright acidity, giving the wine richness without heaviness.
The vineyards lie around 700 metres above sea level to the north-east of Jumilla, where sandy, chalky soils and a dry Mediterranean climate naturally limit yields. The old bush vines produce small quantities of intensely flavoured fruit, which is harvested by hand before fermentation in stainless steel and around four months' ageing in French and American oak.
Monastrell is perfectly suited to Jumilla's hot, arid conditions, producing wines with concentration, freshness and remarkable value. Juan Gil has played a major role in establishing the region's international reputation, and the Yellow Label remains the benchmark introduction to both the producer and the grape.
Rich, approachable and packed with fruit, this is a wine that consistently over-delivers for its price and is just as enjoyable on its own as it is with food.
Food Pairing
Serve with roast pork, grilled lamb, barbecued meats, hearty stews or mature cheeses. Its generous fruit and soft tannins also make it an excellent partner for burgers and chargrilled vegetables.

More Information
Mourvèdre/Monastrell
Mourvèdre, also known as Monastrell, originated in Spain and is believed to date back to the 1st century BCE. Rarely a standalone varietal it is popular for blending in the Rhône Valley, Provence and Languedoc.
When done well, Mouvérdre wines exhibit flavours of red berries, farmyard, wild game, and earthy notes.
