Ontañón Plinio El Viejo Organic Rioja 2023 is a contemporary Rioja made from 100% organically grown Tempranillo. Produced by the Pérez Cuevas family, it reflects their long-standing commitment to sustainable viticulture while showcasing the vibrant fruit and freshness that define modern Rioja.
Ripe plum and dark cherry dominate the nose, accompanied by hints of dark chocolate and sweet spice. The palate is generous and full-flavoured, with gentle tannins and well-integrated oak allowing the purity of the Tempranillo to shine through.
The grapes come from certified organic vineyards at around 500 metres above sea level, where naturally low yields produce fruit with excellent concentration. Following a long maceration of more than twenty days, the wine is fermented under temperature control before spending five months in a combination of French and American oak barrels.
Rather than producing a heavily oaked style, the careful use of barrel ageing adds subtle complexity while keeping the emphasis firmly on the fruit. The result is a Rioja that is approachable in its youth yet retains the balance and structure expected from one of Spain's great wine regions.
Rich, expressive and effortlessly drinkable, Plinio El Viejo is an excellent example of the new generation of Rioja, combining tradition with a fresher, more fruit-forward style.

Serve with roast chicken, pork, grilled salmon, lamb cutlets or mushroom dishes. Its ripe fruit and gentle spice also make it a versatile partner for tapas and charcuterie.
