Sangarida Mencía is produced by Bodegas Attis from vineyards in Ribeira Sacra, the spectacular north-west Spanish region where steep terraced slopes overlook the rivers Sil and Miño. Made from 100% Mencía, it captures the freshness, perfume and mineral character that have made the region one of Spain's rising stars.
Bright aromas of red cherry, raspberry and wild blackberry are complemented by delicate floral notes and subtle spice. The palate is juicy and energetic, combining vibrant red fruit with silky tannins and lively acidity, before finishing with a distinctive mineral edge.
Many of Ribeira Sacra's vineyards are so steep that every task must be carried out by hand, a practice known as "heroic viticulture". The dramatic landscape, slate soils and Atlantic influence combine to produce wines of remarkable freshness despite the region's warm summers.
Attis has built its reputation by producing expressive wines that respect both vineyard and variety. Careful handling of the fruit allows Mencía's naturally bright fruit and floral aromatics to take centre stage, resulting in a wine that is elegant rather than heavy.
