Cortese

Cortese

Cortese is a white grape from Piedmont in north-west Italy. It’s best known for producing the fresh, mineral wines of Gavi.

The grape naturally gives wines with bright acidity and a clean finish. Expect citrus, green apple and a lightly almond note on the palate.

Cortese wines from Piedmont

Cortese has long been associated with the hills of southern Piedmont. The grape thrives in the region’s limestone soils, producing wines that combine freshness with subtle structure.

While the best known wines come from the Gavi area, Cortese is valued more broadly for its clarity and balance. The style tends to be dry, lightly aromatic and built around crisp acidity rather than weight.

Within the wider landscape of Italian wine, Cortese offers a distinctive northern Italian expression: bright, precise and easy to return to.
