Château Marjosse is the personal estate of Pierre Lurton, best known for leading Château Cheval Blanc and Château d'Yquem. Located in the Entre-Deux-Mers, between Saint-Émilion and Sauternes, it has been a long-term passion project for Lurton, who began assembling the property in the early 1990s and has spent decades improving both the vineyards and winery.
What makes Marjosse particularly interesting is its terroir. Unusually for this part of Bordeaux, the vineyards contain limestone and clay soils similar to those found in Saint-Émilion. The estate is planted predominantly with Merlot, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and small amounts of Malbec, producing wines that combine generous fruit with freshness and balance.
The 2025 vintage offers another opportunity to secure one of Bordeaux's most reliable value wines. While Marjosse lacks the prestige of classified growths and famous appellations, it benefits from the same attention to detail that Pierre Lurton has brought to some of Bordeaux's most celebrated estates. The result is a wine that consistently delivers more than its modest price would suggest.
Marjosse has earned a reputation among Bordeaux enthusiasts as one of the region's hidden bargains. It is a wine chosen not for classification or status, but because it offers genuine quality, character and drinkability. For those looking to explore Bordeaux beyond the famous names, it remains one of the most compelling entry points available.
Food Pairing
An easy partner for roast chicken, pork, grilled lamb, sausages and everyday casseroles. Its supple fruit and approachable structure also make it a good match for charcuterie and semi-hard cheeses.

Bordeaux, France
Bordeaux is a famous wine region in southwestern France which produces some of the world's finest wines. The region is home to over 10,000 wine estates and more than 60 appellations, each with its own unique terroir and wine styles.
Bordeaux wines are typically known for their complexity, depth, and ability to age.
One of the world's most widely recognized red wine grape varieties. It is grown in nearly every major wine producing country among a diverse spectrum of climates from Australia and British Columbia, Canada to Lebanon's Beqaa Valley.
The classic profile is full-bodied with high tannins and noticeable acidity that contributes to aging potential.
"If anyone orders merlot, I’m leaving. I am not drinking any f*&!ing merlot".
Miles view (from the film Sideways) is not shared by everyone, Merlot is loved by many for it's boisterous black cherry flavours, supple tannins, and chocolatey finish. It is a component of some of the worlds finest wines.
Malbec is a tale of two worlds - the old and the new. Malbec has become synonomous with Argentinia where the high altitude vineyards produce delicate, floral Malbec.
Yet, as with many things vinous, the grape came from France (where it was known as Côt or Auxxerois). Used in blends, including in Bordeaux, it's best known French expression is in Cahors.
Established in the Libournais region of southwest France in the 17th century. Cardinal Richelieu later took cuttings to the Loire Valley where it's early ripening allowed it to thrive. It is also found thoughout Bordeaux and in the USA.
It typically produces pale red wine with a peppery perfume touched with tobacco, raspberry, bell pepper, cassis, and violets.
