This impressive Malvasia comes from the Abruzzo region of Italy. Pale gold in colour with a nose of ripe stone fruits and fresh flowers. The palate is soft and ripe with notes of nectarine, peach, orange zest and candied lemon peel. The oppulent flavours are balanced perfectly by a fresh acidity and a long, fruity finish.

Serve with pasta dishes or medium cured cheese with salami.

Abruzzo, Italy

The Abruzzo winemaking region is in the centre of the Italian "boot". The Apennines run along its western border which include Corno Grande, the highest point on mainland Italy. The mountains temper the climate, blocking many storms that come in from the west.

Abruzzo is dominated by cooperatives. About 80% of all wine from Abruzzo is made by co-ops located in hotter areas like Chieti.

Malvasia

The name comes from the Greek port Monemvasia, through which many wines.

In Italy there are at least 10 forms of Malvasia. Malvasia Toscana is commonly blended with Trebbiano. Malvasia Puntinata is small-berried and superior. White Malvasia tends to be a deeply coloured, alcoholic with a propensity to oxidise easily. It has a nutty character, sometimes with notes of orange peel and dried fruits.
