A well-balanced Pecorino from Abruzzo, offering both freshness and a bit of weight. Citrus and stone fruit lead, backed by a gentle richness and a clean mineral line. Biodynamic farming keeps things focused and expressive rather than overworked.
Made by Cantina Orsogna, a long-established cooperative working with local growers, this is produced from Pecorino grown in the hills of Abruzzo. The wine shows notes of ripe pear, peach and citrus, with a light floral edge. The palate is smooth and rounded, with good acidity and a long, steady finish.
Cantina Orsogna farms to biodynamic standards, certified by Demeter. The approach centres on soil health and balance in the vineyard, aiming for consistency and resilience rather than intervention. It shows in the wine as clarity and structure without excess weight.
This sits in a useful spot. Enough texture to work with food, but still fresh enough to drink on its own.
Food Pairing
Works well with river fish, risotto, chicken dishes and vegetable-led plates. Also a good match for simple, lightly creamy dishes.

More Information
Abruzzo, Italy
The Abruzzo winemaking region is in the centre of the Italian "boot". The Apennines run along its western border which include Corno Grande, the highest point on mainland Italy. The mountains temper the climate, blocking many storms that come in from the west.
Abruzzo is dominated by cooperatives. About 80% of all wine from Abruzzo is made by co-ops located in hotter areas like Chieti.
A small, delicately pale white grape which is indigenous to Italy, Pecorino is happy from higher mountain altitudes all the way down to hillside slopes to the coast. It thrives in Italy’s Abruzzo region.
The beauty of Pecorino is its versatility: unoaked, or with a kiss of oak, it shows stone-fruit sweetness, florals and delicate herbal notes, with lively bracing acidity and minerality.
Cantina Orsogna was created in 1964. It is the largest producer of organic and biodynamic wines in the south of Italy. It has been certified biodynamic since 2005 and has been organic producers for more than 30 years.
Under the Lunaria brand they support the activities of the WWF LIFE Euroturtles project to protect turtles in the Mediterranean.
Wishing I had bought more than one bottle, as it is divine. Turned out to be the wine that made our Christmas very notable.

An excellent white wine from a vineyard near the Adriatic Sea. It has more body than many Italian white wines, not too dry and a fruity aroma. Recommended.

Nice minerality which underscores a palette rich with citrus, peach and pear.
