California Zinfandel’s equally bold and brash Italian sister.

This biodynamic Primitivo is a bright ruby red in colour. The bouquet shows aromas of black cherry and violets. The palate is soft and smooth with notes of sweet black cherries and blackcurrant fruits combined with notes of cinnamon and cloves supported by lovely soft tannins. Well balanced with a fresh acidity and a long, fruity finish.

Love and respect of an authentic land, the desire to leave unchanged the charm whilst making the most of its potential, is expressed the wine production of Lunaria, a harmonious mix of excellence and strong personality. Montepulciano, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, Sangiovese, Malvasia, are not just names but characters, each original in its most secret and unexpected nuances.

In the background, the sea and the Maiella national park where dreams are born that turn into ambitious projects. Under the brand Lunaria, they support the activities of the WWF soslupo campaign to protect native wolves in Abruzzo and Calabria.

Abruzzo, Italy

The Abruzzo winemaking region is in the centre of the Italian "boot". The Apennines run along its western border which include Corno Grande, the highest point on mainland Italy. The mountains temper the climate, blocking many storms that come in from the west.

Abruzzo is dominated by cooperatives. About 80% of all wine from Abruzzo is made by co-ops located in hotter areas like Chieti.

Primitivo/Zinfandel

Primitivo is a red grape that produces very intense, dark ruby red wines with a spicy and fruity nose. It has flavours of blackberry, dark chocolate and liquorice.

It is originally from Croatia, where it is known as Crljenak Kaštelanski. It found its true home on the eroded limestone plateaus of Puglia, Italy, and it is now grown all over the south of Italy. It also does well in California, where it’s called Zinfandel.
