Boutinot South Africa

It all started with a simple love of Loire Chenin Blanc. In 1980 Paul Boutinot started importing wines for his parents French restaurant near Stockport, England. The company now owns vineyards in a truly international portfolio.

Boutinot South Africa was fFounded in 1994 with a desire to capture the essence of South Africa in every bottle. They pioneered the wild ferment style of Chenin Blanc that has now been adopted by many producers in the region.

Meet the Winemaker

Meet the Winemaker

JD Roussouw, Boutinot South Africa

JD was destined to be a winemaker. Whilst pregnant, his mother helped in the family winery, enriching JDs formative senses. His earliest memories are of the “floral aromas in the winery while the fermentations were happening”. JD always wanted to be a winemaker and it all came so naturally whilst helping his father in their Paarl winery.

Favourite wine to make?
I think for me its working with Chenin Blanc that excites me the most. I love the diversity of the grape. From MCC [Methode Cap Classique] to sweet wine.

Most memorable bottle?
I did a tasting at E Guigal just after [Robert] Parker visited and was lucky enough to taste the La Landonne, La Turque and La Mouline. Wines I thought I would only ever read about.

Best food & wine pairing?
Currently I'm on the light reds bandwagon. I love italian food and it works very well with Cinsault.
