Elizabeth Prataveira, Domaine de Menard

Elizabeth Prataveira is the 4th generation winemaker and owner of Domaine Haut Marin. She works alongside her brother Philippe who focuses on caring for the vineyards.

For over 100 years, beginning with Jean Francois Morel in 1920, the Prataviera-Jegerlehner family has worked with passion in their vineyards in Gascony.

Grapes are harvested at night to preserve aromas and prevent oxidation. To ensure good quality wine, pressing is one of the most important steps. At Domaine de Menard grapes are pressed under nitrogen, to preserve aromas, freshness and to avoid the browning of juice. After cold setting, comes the clarification. Finally all the wines are aged for at least 3 months in stainless steel tanks and concrete tanks.

A Note on Sustainability

Water used to protect the vines is demineralised and kept on an adapted warm temperature, which reduces the use of pesticides by 35%.

The winery uses an anti-drift device when spraying, this ensures pesticides don’t fall on the ground and are not dispersed. This reduces pesticide use by 40% and is better for the environment.

Organic fertilizers are used to protect the soil.
