Blanc De Blancs 2017, Langham Estate, Dorset
Langham Estate are renowned for their legendary Blanc de Blancs sparkling wines, demonstrating how great Chardonnay can be in the UK.
This single varietal English saprkling wine is made from 100% Chardonnay grown on the 12 hectare Crowthorne vineyard in Dorset.
The wine has a stable foam, pale gold colour and fine stream of bubbles. On the nose it is complex with ripe gala apple and poached pear. There are some floral notes of apple blossom and honey suckle.
There is also a seriousness here, with wet beach pebbles and toasted granary bread. It has a well-integrated orchard fruit acidity. The mouthfeel has creaminess and great texture, from the 30 months it spent aging on its lees.
The finish has a lovely salinity well-balanced with citrus and some light brioche and almond notes.
from 2017 has a pale yellow colour with a stream of fine bubbles.
Partial barrel fermentation and 18 months lees ageing, plus six months on cork. This wine has aromas of honeysuckle, lemon drizzle cake, apple crumble, cut grass and shortbread. Classic autolytic flavours of brioche are supported with a delicate salinity. A balanced citrus acidity brings this well weighted wine together and elongates the finish.
