It’s that time again Le Beaujolais Nouveau est Arrivé! Beaujolais Nouveau Day is always the third Thursday in November.
Once again we have partnered with Cecile and Alain Dardenelli from Domaine Bel Avenir in La Chapelle de Guinchay, 3 kilometres east of Chénas.
Their grapes are harvested from vines planted on an array of different terroirs: siliceous clay (St Amour), granite (Chénas) and limestone. The couple own vineyards in the Beaujolais-Villages plain as well as in the Crus of Juliénas, Chénas, St Amour and Fleurie.
We are always excited to see what this years harvest will bring. 2025 has been a hot, dry year, with good growing conditions. As always, you can expect bubble-gum, raspberries, cherries and fresh, vibrant, and juicy fun.

Gamay
Gamay is a thin, delicate purple-black skinned grape which is cylindrical and compact, surrounded by flat, fairly even-edged leaves.
Although granite soils seem to be its soil of choice, the variety is good at adapting. Half of the 30,000 hectares of Gamay planted worldwide are in the Beaujolais region of France, where it covers 98% of the areas that produce Beaujolais wine.
The hilly Beaujolais vineyards stretch out from north to south over 55km, bordered to the west by the Massif Central, and to the east by the Saone river.
Beaujolais vineyards are emblematic in the French national landscape, but are still teeming with secrets to be unearthed. The region has a constent sense of welcome and sharing. Sculpted over centuries it is personified by its 12 AOCs.
Cécile and her husband Alain are fourth generation winemakers. The estate was created by Albert Dardanelli in 1961. It has since expanded to 18 hectares with vineyards in the Beaujolais Crus of Morgon, St Armour, Moulin-à-Vent, Régnié, Juliénas and Fleurie. Their daughter Laura is already working on the estate and she will become the fifth generation to run the domaine.

Bought two bottles, drank one, loved it so much we ordered 6 more!!
Found the wine improved once it had time to breathe, so if you’re eager to drink it you might want to aerate the first glass. That said it’s not a necessity as our first glass was l

Very pleasant, rich fruity flavour, beautiful colour and aroma. I miss the old days with the cars arriving at the bar on the Thursday with the bottles, everyone waiting, but it’s still nice to look forward to.

This is a charming and well made Beaujolais Nouveau. Have also recently drunk the 2022 vintage which was still drinking well after a year.
