Arriving at Domaine Chandon, in Mendoza, sixty years on from its founding, your eyes are drawn to the mountain view. Yet if Chandon's pioneers were to arrive here today, they might not recognize the place.
Robert-Jean de Vogüé was searching for the best terroirs. This turned into an epic journey. Eventually, his heroic 2CV brought him and Renaud Poirier (the first Chief winemaker at Domaine Chandon), to a place near Mendoza: the high, pure land they had dreamed of. Its unique situation and dramatic climate, with its wild seasonal and daily temperature variations, thrilled them.
Domaine Chandon is nested in the Andean foothills at an elevation of above 1000m. It is located in Agrelo near Luján de Cuyo.
