Château Marquis d’Alesme is a historic Third Growth estate in Margaux, producing elegant, refined wines that combine tradition with modern winemaking. Today, the estate is run by the Perrodo family, guided by technical director Marjolaine de Coninck. Careful vineyard management and oak maturation allow the estate’s gravelly Margaux terroir to shine, producing wines that are both approachable and age-worthy.

The 2022 vintage is a classic blend, led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Petit Verdot, and a touch of Cabernet Franc. Hand-harvested grapes were vinified with attention to detail and aged in around 60% new oak barrels, resulting in a wine that is expressive, balanced, and ready to enjoy.

Tasting Profile
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby-purple colour. On the nose, ripe blackcurrant, dark cherry and plum mingle with subtle floral notes, cedar, and a hint of mint. As it opens, gentle touches of dark chocolate, tobacco and soft spice emerge.

On the palate, it is medium-to-full-bodied, with silky, ripe tannins and a generous, juicy mid-palate. Dark fruit flavours are balanced by fresh acidity, soft liquorice-herbal notes, and a light minerality. The finish is long and elegant, carrying the dark berries, cedar, and a hint of spice.

Food Pairings
This is a wine that pairs beautifully with richly flavoured dishes. Think herb-roast lamb, peppered beef or rib-eye steak, slow-braised beef or venison casseroles, and smoky game dishes. Mature or semi-hard cheeses also work well, as do dark chocolate desserts such as mousse or flourless cake.

The 2022 Marquis d’Alesme can be enjoyed now, ideally decanted, or cellared for a decade or more, where it will develop further elegance and complexity.
