A focused, mineral-driven expression of Gamay from one of Beaujolais’ most respected crus. Sourced from steep, south-facing vineyards on the slopes of Mont Brouilly, the granite-rich soils give the wine its hallmark freshness, structure and aromatic clarity.

The Fournelles family farm their vines with a strong emphasis on sustainability and low intervention, allowing the character of the site to speak clearly. The “Godefroy” cuvée comes from old vines, naturally low-yielding, and is vinified with care to preserve purity of fruit and the distinctive Côte de Brouilly tension.

In the glass, it opens with vibrant aromas of crushed raspberry, red cherry and wild strawberry, underpinned by subtle floral notes and a fine mineral edge. The palate is precise and energetic, with bright red fruit, silky tannins and a savoury, lightly stony finish that sets it apart from more simple Beaujolais styles.

Food Pairings: Exceptionally versatile at the table, this wine shines alongside roast chicken, pork loin, duck, or charcuterie. It also works beautifully with mushroom dishes, lentil stews, and semi-soft cheeses such as Comté or Tomme de Savoie. Serve slightly cool to highlight its freshness and finesse.

A serious, terroir-driven Beaujolais that offers depth without heaviness — proof that Gamay, in the right hands and from the right place, can be both elegant and profound.

Gamay

Gamay is a thin, delicate purple-black skinned grape which is cylindrical and compact, surrounded by flat, fairly even-edged leaves.

Although granite soils seem to be its soil of choice, the variety is good at adapting. Half of the 30,000 hectares of Gamay planted worldwide are in the Beaujolais region of France, where it covers 98% of the areas that produce Beaujolais wine.

Beaujolais, France

The hilly Beaujolais vineyards stretch out from north to south over 55km, bordered to the west by the Massif Central, and to the east by the Saone river.

Beaujolais vineyards are emblematic in the French national landscape, but are still teeming with secrets to be unearthed. The region has a constent sense of welcome and sharing. Sculpted over centuries it is personified by its 12 AOCs.

Guillaume Dumontet, Domaine des Fournelles

The family run estate is located in St Lager and covers 8 hectares. Production is mostly from vineyards in the cru villages of Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly.

The estate is currently certified to HVE (High Environmental Value), with organic certification in the pipeline. The vines are worked manually: cup size by hand, manual harvesting, attachment of the vine etc. All the vinification is done at the domaine cellars.
