Istenič Gourmet Rosé Brut 2018

£25.20 per bottle
In Stock & Ready To Ship!

An extra dry and elegant Slovenian sparkling rosé made using 100% Pinot Noir harvested in the best years. This is an elegant, pale pink sparkler with inviting red fruit and biscuit aromas and lively bubbles.

The Pinot Noir gives the wine a full flavour and characteristic bouquet, while the long aging on lees enriches the flavours. The wine is aging nicely, showing some well-expressed tertiary aromas.

''Such a pretty nose! Raspberries and raspberry flowers and rose petals. Charming sweetness and then a blush flush of acidity. Like lime slices dipped in raspberry juice. An underlying hint of walnut, bringing its texture and whisper of bitterness. Then back to sweetness on the finish. Delicious with tempura prawns in sweet chilli sauce'' 16.5pts Tamlyn Curran (Jancis Robinson.com)

Food Pairing

Best served as an aperitif, in flutes so that the distinctive salmon colour can be admired. Alternatively serve this with veal, fish, shellfish and fresh cheeses.

Slovenia

Slovenian wine boasts a rich, ancient history. Its winemaking predates that of major wine-producing countries like France and Spain.

Today, Slovenia, situated at the crossroads of Central Europe and the Mediterranean, produces diverse and unique wines across three main wine-growing regions: Primorska, Podravje, and Posavje. Slovenia cultivates both international varieties and unique indigenous grapes

Penine Istenič

After graduating in Oenology in the 1960s Janez Istenič enjoyed a career as a winemaker at one of Yugoslavia’s state cellars. He won a scholarship to study in Champagne thanks to his love of bubbles. On his return to Slovenia he realised that his father-in-law’s vineyard, which produced wines with “distinct freshness”, had similarities with the high-acid grapes of Champagne.

The rest, as they say, is history!

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is the holy grail grape for many winemakers, it is a difficult mistress, but when made well it shines.

Young Pinot Noir has delicious aromas of cherries, raspberries, and strawberries. With age it develops complexity and mystery. Older wines have the capacity to become a gamey style of wine, and the best examples show autumnal notes of truffles, mushrooms, and forest floor.
