Picpoul, or more correctly Piquepoul, was once a well kept secret of the South of France. More recently this dry white wine has become a firm summer for those in the know. It is a refreshing alternative to Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc.
The most sought after examples come from Picpoul de Pinet. The appellation stretches along the Thau lagoon which borders the Mediterranean, and it is the largest white wine producing area in the Languedoc. It is a triangle bounded by the towns of Agde, Pézenas and Sète. A limestone plateau which basks in the rising sun covered in highly perfumed garrigue, rows of vines, and scattered pine groves.
