Zweigelt (also known as Blauer Zweigelt, or Rotburger) is the most widespread red wine variety in Austria. It is a cross between Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent which was created by Professor Fritz Zweigelt in 1922.
It yields dark purple/red coloured wines with strong tannins. Fully ripe grapes produce full-bodied, ageworthy wines with aromas of morello cherry.
