Big, bold and concentrated Carignan Noir that leaves a big, bold impression.

Winemaker Guillaume Letang went on a voyage to vineyards unknown to source these grapes. While he is used to driving all over Languedoc Roussillon for his work he had never ventured this far south. One day curiosity got the better of him and he went to explore "the wild landscape" between Corbieres and the Mediterranean. He discovered grapes with freshness and purity of fruit from old, bush-vine Carignan.

The small yields from this area and its unique soils and landscape give distinctive wines with personality. This wine is intense and complex with dark, rich fruit, delicate tannins and smooth mouthfeel. As Guillaume says, it’s a "must taste" wine!

Match this with duck confit or shoulder of lamb. As a vegetarian option lentil and bean stew would compliment the wine just as well.

Languedoc-Rousillon, France

The Languedoc is a vast region stretching across much of the south and Mediterranean and is France`s single largest vineyard entity for its Vins de Pays wines.

Within the Languedoc lie several distinctly identified Vins de Pays (including the l`Aude, Gard and Hérault) and many appellations that maintain traditional local blends and styles such as Minervois, Corbières, Pic Saint Loup and Fitou.

Carignan

Carignan is a relatively unknown variety, often taking a back seat to its more recognisable blending partners - Syrah and Grenache. Despite which it is an important player in southern France and Spain.

When grown with care and not over-cropped, Carignan produces wines of presence, structure, and spice. Common flavours include red berries, savoury spices, and subtle earthiness. Carignan rosés are fresh and energetic.

Julien Dugas, Domaine Boutinot

Julien describes himself as ‘a man on the ground’; always close to the source of his wines and appreciating that this is the key to fantastic wine.

The philosophy of Domaine Boutinot is to make wines which are ready to be enjoyed as soon as they’re released, but which will continue to develop character and flavour when kept for several years.
