This is a well-structured, classic claret from one of Bordeaux’s most respected Left Bank appellations. Haut-Médoc is renowned for producing wines that balance power with elegance, thanks to its gravel-rich soils and close proximity to the Gironde estuary, which helps moderate the climate and encourage even ripening.

Château Semonlon Haut-Médoc 2022 is a Cabernet-led blend, supported by Merlot, showing all the hallmark character of the region. On the nose, expect blackcurrant, ripe blackberry and plum, layered with subtle notes of cedar, tobacco and gentle spice. The palate is firm yet polished, with fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity and a savoury edge that carries through to a long, balanced finish.

The 2022 vintage brings ripe fruit and depth, while careful winemaking and measured oak ageing add complexity without overwhelming the wine’s natural freshness. It is drinking well now with food but has the structure to develop further over the next few years.

Food Pairings: A natural partner for roast beef, lamb or venison, as well as richer dishes such as beef bourguignon or slow-cooked stews. It also pairs beautifully with hard cheeses like Comté or mature cheddar.

A textbook Haut-Médoc that delivers everything you want from Left Bank Bordeaux — structure, restraint and an unmistakable sense of place — at a price that makes it easy to enjoy beyond special occasions.
