The name Sangarida comes from Greek mythology; Attis was the mythical consort of the Great Mother of the Gods, Cibeles. Attis had vowed to be celibate forever in order to serve Cibeles, however he met a nymph called Sangarida, fell in love and broke his oath.
Both Attis and Sangarida were punished but Cibeles resurrected Attis turning him into a pine tree as a symbol of the great mother nature.
