Domaine G. Saumaize, Pouilly-Fuissé Grande Réserve ‘Maillettes’ is a fine, full-bodied white Burgundy .

Expressive, almost exotic aromas and flavours with a lovely touch of oak that adds a slightly nutty character to the lush, ripe Chardonnay fruit. Rich but restrained, there is a real finesse and elegant balance to this very classy white Burgundy.

This is a versatile, classic white wine that will drink beautifully with poultry, fish and hearty salads.

The 100% Chardonnay grapes are grown on the limestone and clay soils of Solutré and Vergisson. Fermented in barriques, this wine then spent 12 months in a mixture of new and older French oak.

Domaine G. Saumaize (formerly Domaine des Maillettes) is now wholly run by Guillaume Saumaize, follwing the recent retirement of his mother, Annie. Tending to more than forty parcels of vines (up to 80 years old) spread across four Mâconnais communes (Vergisson, Davayé, Solutré and Prissé), he produces Pouilly-Fuissé and a range of other Mâcon AOC wines.

Burgundy, France

Burgundy (or Bourgogne in French) is small in size, the Côte d'Or has about 8000 hectares under vine, yet its influence is immense. It is home to some of the best known and most expensive wines in the world. Look in the right places and there is great quality and superb value to be found.

The two major grapes are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, though you can find small pockets of well-made Aligoté.

Chardonnay

One of the world’s most popular grapes, Chardonnay is made in a wide range of styles from lean, sparkling Blanc de Blancs to rich, creamy white wines aged in oak.

Depending on how ripe the grapes get, the flavour ranges from crisp, clean citrus and green apple, to ripe peaches and tropical fruit. Notable Chardonnays can be found in France, California, Australia, England, and beyond.

Exactly as good as described. Wickhams are very accurate in their analyses of every wine I have bought.
