"L'or Rouge" translates as red gold which is a great description of this superb, savoury wine from the heart of Côte Chalonnaise in Burgundy.

It has a wonderfully intense ruby colour. The nose is so inviting and rich, full of red fruits, warm spice and something almost savoury, you just want to dive in. The palate does not disappoint either, with waves of wild strawberry, dark cherry and a lovely dry, cranberry finish, all wrapped up with plush tannin and a silky smooth texture.

The vineyard is located on the mid slope on a combination of clay and limestone which lends a wonderful minerality to the wine.

This is a treat to self wine and would be delicious with game, salmon, grilled veggies, beetroot tart or even tapas meats and cheeses.

Louis Père et Fils

After 160 years, Louis Père & Fils continues to blend innovation and tradition to produce extraordinary wines from three of the world’s most illustrious terroirs.

The house’s eponymous founder, Evgueni Louis Max, hailed from Georgia, which many believe is the birthplace of winemaking. He inherited his passion from his father, a wine merchant who had been a soldier in Tsar Alexander I’s army.

Burgundy, France

Burgundy (or Bourgogne in French) is small in size, the Côte d'Or has about 8000 hectares under vine, yet its influence is immense. It is home to some of the best known and most expensive wines in the world. Look in the right places and there is great quality and superb value to be found.

The two major grapes are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, though you can find small pockets of well-made Aligoté.

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is the holy grail grape for many winemakers, it is a difficult mistress, but when made well it shines.

Young Pinot Noir has delicious aromas of cherries, raspberries, and strawberries. With age it develops complexity and mystery. Older wines have the capacity to become a gamey style of wine, and the best examples show autumnal notes of truffles, mushrooms, and forest floor.

Cultivation of the vines, control of yields, manual harvesting, and sorting of the grapes at full maturity. Everything is done to extract the delicacy and subtlety of Chardonnay, the finesse and elegance of Pinot Noir. This authentic know-how is the fruit of a unique experience matured over six Generations.
