A full-flavoured super ripe organic, modern style of Rioja. Ripe plum and dark cherry fruit with a twist of spice and gentle tannins.
The Tempranillo grapes are sourced from certified organic vineyards at altitudes of around 500m. Ontañón have 57ha of low-yielding organic vineyards and 300 barrels dedicated to organic wines.
There is a long 20 day maceration of the grapes - fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures. Ecológico spends five months in both American and French oak barrels.

Tempranillo has been grown on the Iberian Peninsula since the time of Phoenician settlements which date back to 500BC.
It is an early ripening variety that thrives on chalky soils. It is found predominantly in the Spanish regions of Ribera del Duero and Rioja. In Portugal it is known as Tinto Roriz. When vinified alone it has flavours of strawberries and plums.
